News from the Stake Garden!

On Wednesday, July 13, there is going to be a corn picking event. Garden helpers will start at 8 am and pick all of the corn. They will then shuck and clean the corn and put them into a holding container. One container will be placed at the Centerton Building and the other at the Stake Building. The corn taken from the holding bins (shucked and cleaned!) will be sold at 15 cents an ear. But please note**Anyone and everyone is invited to help with the picking and cleaning. Those who help will be able to purchase the corn at 5 cents an ear. Children are very welcome (and usually very willing to shuck) Many hands make light work!!!

Family Enrichment Group Meeting

When: Tuesday, July 26

Time: 8:30pm
What: Round Table format for sister's to share a little about themselves and their families, as well as an open forum as to what they would like to see in future meetings. AKA: Laid back summer jam session!!!!

Leslee Lai

Leslee moved to NWA with her family in 1997. Later she moved to Taichung, Taiwan where she met her husband Nick. With her husband she returned to the area in 2004. They have four girls: Emma (9), Sally (7), Molly (4), Betty (3), and a baby due in July. Leslee enjoys reading, sewing, quilting, children, and languages. Being with family, the sound of children’s laughter, and being in nature all make Leslee happy. She likes both milk and dark chocolate. Her favorite food is whatever satisfies (like homemade bread). Her favorite place to vacation is the world. Her favorite hymn is “I Stand All Amazed” because it has always helped her since her mission. This year Leslee hopes to have a healthy baby and an organized home.

Chelsie Moline


Chelsie and her husband Chuck moved to the area in Jan 2010 from central Arkansas (Ward, AR). Chelsie and Chuck have three boys: Tyler (8), Caleb (5), and Jackson (4 in August). Chelsie loves doing crafts and finishing projects, eating delicious meals and sharing them with others, dancing, and doing yoga. Spending time with friends, laughing, and sleeping make Chelsie happy. She prefers dark chocolate, particularly Hersey's Special Dark and Dove Carmel bites. Chelsie loves to cook and eat great food. Two of her favorite foods are Fettuccini Alfredo and Outback’s Steakhouse Salad. Two favorite desserts are homemade peanut butter bars or devil’s food cupcakes with strawberry lemonade frosting. She also makes an amazing pumpkin pie. Chelsie would like to go to a beach in Florida on vacation. Her favorite hymn is "I Stand All Amazed" because she feels those words in her soul. She also likes the hymn “I believe in Christ” because it has a powerful message. Her favorite scripture is John 14: 27 (Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid). This year Chelsie would like to refinish her piano and be healthier.

Humanitarian Activity in July!

We will be spending a night learning fun ways to decorate cupcakes. Rebecca Holgate will show us some of her tips for fun ways to decorate with frosting and Heidi Kittelson will show off her amazing skills with fondant. We will be donating them to local police/firemen.
We are also asking for donations of fleece blankets. These are going to clinic where Angela Folkman works, for the patients who are receiving cancer treatment. There is a desperate need of blankets and we hope to completely fill that need for them! We will cut and tie them at the activity!

Liesel Sparhawk

Liesel & her husband Adam moved from Pittsburgh, PA in May and will stay for the summer for his internship with Wal-Mart. Liesel enjoys reading, cooking, exploring, and socializing with others. Spending time with friends & family makes her happy. Liesel prefers milk chocolate. Her favorite food is pizza. Her favorite dessert is ice cream. And her favorite place to vacation is in the Caribbean. Her favorite scripture is 3 Nephi 17. She loves this chapter & will read it whenever she needs to feel peace. This year Liesel wants to learn how to make French macaroons.

Sisters,

Below is the quilt block we will be doing on the 28^th. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email or call me. The templates are exact size, so just cut them out on the outside lines and trace around them on your strips of fabric and cut them out of the fabric. It's pretty easy. If you decide to sew them before class, I will tell you mine did not turn out good doing it like they tell you to do it. I ripped my seems out and did it in 4 squares and then sewed the four squares together to make my block. It was much easier to line up my seams that way.

** Preparing the Pieces and Sewing the Block **

 

Start by cutting the Color 1 2" x 8" strip into four 2" squares. Next, using the template provided , cut four trapezoids from each of the two Color 1  4-1/2" x 10" rectangles...note that four are cut in one direction, and four in reverse. Now cut the Color 1  3-7/8" x 7-3/4" strip into two 3-7/8" squares--stack these squares and cut them once on the diagonal to make four half square triangles...

 

Repeat the above actions with the Color 2 strips of the same size... ...on to Page 2!

 

Betty's Delight - Page 2

 

Sew a Color 1 trapezoid to the right edge, right sides together, of a Color 2 half square triangle. Press seam towards the dark side. Sew a Color 1  2" square to the square end of a reverse Color 1 trap. Press seam towards the dark side. Sew the square and trap unit to the bottom of the triangle unit, also pressing that seam towards the dark. Make four more Dark Units like this...

 

Now make four Light Units following the above same steps, but with reverse color pieces, and pressing seams to the light side instead...

 

Next sew a Dark Unit and a Light Unit together. Make four units like that...

 

Sew pairs of the above units together. Join the new half-blocks to complete the Betty's Delight block!...on to Page 3!

Puan Senesombath

Puan & her husband Jimmy moved to the area in 2001. Prior to NWA they lived in Utah and California. Puan & Jimmy have two children:
Jasmine (9) and Emily (5). Puan enjoys reading, running, gardening, and photography. Hearing her children laugh and play together makes Puan happy. She likes both milk and dark chocolate. Puan loves all kinds of food. Her favorite dessert is a slice of warm apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream. And her favorite place to vacation is Hawaii. Her favorite hymn is "O My Father" because it reminds her that she is a daughter of God. Some day Puan would like to run a marathon.
