Stake Conference Choir Announcement for the Blog

Stake Choir

The Rogers Arkansas Stake Choir will be performing during the general session of Stake Conference on Sunday, September 19th. Please join us for rehearsals on Sunday, August 29th, September 5th, and September 12th from 6-7:30pm at the Stake Center. We'll be singing 3 pieces for prelude and 2 pieces during the session. We invite all interested singers to join us! .  Childcare will not be provided.  

This will be a wonderful way to warm up for Nativity and Noel rehearsals, beginning Sunday, October 17th.

Young women's temple marriage pump-up activity

Hey Friends, Next Wednesday we have  a really fun activity planned, but we need help from some of you sisters!!  We are having a wedding dress fashion show and some other fun activities.  What we really need to make the activity special is several of you wearing your wedding dresses and one at a time coming in to share some thoughts about your choice to be sealed in the temple or anything else the Spirit may tell you to say.  It only needs to be a few minutes.  It doesn't matter if you're a newlywed or been married for several years; a variety is great!!   Please contact me asap if you may be able to help and I'll give some more details!! Reminder & September Play Group Schedule!

Hey!

Hope everyone's having a great first part of the week!  Tomorrow at 10:30 AM is our first home play group at my house (3004 SW Windrift Ave, Unit 1 in Bentonville).  Myma is really looking forward to having friends over!:)

So, for September, here are our home play groups:

Sept. 1-Chelsie Moline's at 10:30 AM
Sept. 10-Nicole Bingham's at 10:30 AM (this is a FRIDAY, not a Wednesday!)
Sept. 15-Amy Bench's at 10:30 AM
Sept. 22-Haylie Redder's at 10:30 AM

We have a couple special play groups in September as well!  Aubrey Patterson had the great idea to do a pool party at the Wildwood Pool!  We're going to do it Friday, Sept. 3 at 10:30 AM.  I hope the weather is nice and sunny (although, it really could cool off a bit and still be swimmable, huh?)!  Bring a sack lunch for you and kiddies!

And then each month on the last Wednesday we'll meet someplace fun.  I thought this month (Sept. 29) we could do Chuck E. Cheese.  My and I went and it was so much fun!  She rode the carousel at least 4 times.  Let's meet at 10:30, and we can stay for lunch if anyone wants to!:)

Let me know if you'd like to host for October!  How fun would it be to plan a Halloween craft for the kids?!?

Upcoming play groups!

Hey mamas!

So, I've been looking on Facebook at everyone's big kids' back to school pictures, and it has me all nostalgic (for when I taught) and sad (for when Myma leaves me someday!)!  I hope all the kiddies had a wonderful first few days of school! 

We are beginning home play groups THIS week!  So exciting!  Let me tell you how it'll work.  I think they'll all work pretty similarly.  It'll be on Wednesday (usually), it'll be in the late morning (usually 10:30 it's looking like!), and you can count on yummy treats and a fun activity for the little ones. 

For instance, this week on Wednesday (Aug. 25) at 10:30 AM, we'll meet at my house...3004 SW Windrift Ave, Unit 1 (right side of a duplex).  I'll have stuff for sandwiches and a treat.  If your kids like sandwiches, they are welcome to share!  If not, please bring something for them to eat (or you can leave when it gets to be your lunchtime!).  I think we're going to do some kind of apple-ish craft for kids that are interested.  Myma might not be so interested.:)  Anyway, I have a train set and some other fun toys for bigger kids, and of course, lots of baby toys!  I hope lots of people can come!  You are welcome to drop in late!  There is no late, haha!

The week after, September 1, we'll be meeting at Chelsie Moline's (4002 SW Hollowbrook St) at 10:30 AM. 

In the next few days, I will send you the rest of the month's schedule!  Just plan on Wednesdays!:)  Sorry to send out multiple emails.  If you'd like to host in October, please let me know!

• If your last name starts with A-L, please bring sides or dessert. 
• If your last name starts with M-Z, please bring a main dish.
• Please bring your own paper products (plates, utensils, cups, napkins)
• Drinks will be provided.
  

 
Directions to Park Springs Park: from Walton in Bentonville, turn RIGHT on Central (at the light).  Turn LEFT on D street (just past the Callison-Lough funeral home).  Turn RIGHT on NW 3rd.  Turn LEFT on C street (by the RE Baker school).  Take C street to 10th, the road curves and the park will be on the left.  Park is between NW B and NW C streets in the 1000 block.

Some other things
There are lots of tables to sit at, but you may want to bring camp chairs.
Don't forget the bug spray!
 
In the unfortunate (but much needed) event of rain, the activity will be held at our Centerton church building.

Help for Addyson!

I have been given the opportunity to travel to Germany and Austria with Bentonville High School's Chamber Choir next summer and am looking for ways to earn money. I would like to have a garage sale over Labor Day weekend (September 4th and 6th) to help raise some of it. I am asking for anything that you would be willing to donate. I would need the items by August 28th and would be more than willing to come pick them up, so you don't have to drive out to my house. There is a new little store in Rogers called "Family Matters", on 2nd street downtown.  It has all kinds of cute things for children at reasonable

September Book Group

Thank you Cori for hosting book group last week, and Leslee for leading the discussion.

 

Our September book is Mary, Martha & Me by Camille Fronk Olson.  We will meet at 8:30pm on Thursday, September 2nd at Amy Bench's house.  Lacey Schofield will lead the discussion.

 

Summary of the book:

When someone says, "She is a Martha-type," we know just what that means: a woman who is practical, competent, down-to-earth. We understand that Marthas are certainly useful and necessary, but it's usually Mary that gets the halo. Author Camille Fronk Olson brings unique insights and perspectives to the biblical story of two sisters, Mary and Martha, who serve Jesus in different ways. Exploring the mixed messages in daily life, she discusses the motives and focus that determine our choices and the problem of comparing our gifts and contributions to others. Play Group-Jones Center Friday?

Hey y'all,

  Wanted to catch you early in the week to tell you about play group Friday!  It is the last one before school starts again (how crazy is that?!?  what a quick summer!), so I wanted to plan something fun for the big kiddos too.  I've been wanting to go to the Jones Center Pool all summer...well, really, ever since I went to the Jones Center for something else and saw how awesome their pool is!  So, this Friday, peeps.  Let's do it.  It's in Springdale, and I know it's kind of a hike, but I think it'll be worth it!  They have public swim from 12-3:45 (and then 4-7:45 if y'all are feeling extra ambitious!), so I know that's later than usual, and it could run into some nap times, but we're (My & I) planning on being there right at noon and just staying an hour and a half or so.  I also know it's lunch time, so eat before you come!  But I think it's going to be SO much fun!  I hope everyone can make it!  Important details: it's indoor, it's $2 per person (kids under 3 are free! yay!), kids not potty trained HAVE to wear a swim diaper, and the address is 922 E. Emma Ave. in Springdale (it took me about 25-30 minutes to get there). 
  I think we'll take the following week off, because of school starting, but the week after, let's start home play dates!  My plan is to have home play groups each Wednesday (we need a hump day activity!) beginning around 10:30 or 11 AM (depending on when the host wants to start!).  If anyone has preschool, hopefully you can still drop by!  Because it's around lunch time, we'll have snacks, but bring a sack lunch for you and the kiddos.  Once a month, instead of a home play group, we'll meet up somewhere fun like Chuck E Cheese or a kiddie matinee or something! 
  So, the first one will be Wednesday, August 25 at my house!  I'll send more details later, but plan on it!  And we need hosts!  Let me know if you would be delighted to have your home blessed with lots of activity some Wednesday!:)  If a different day works better for you to host, let me know and we'll do some rearranging for the week.  I'm trying to get September figured out, so especially let me know if one of those Wednesdays works for you!  I'll try to send out a calendar at the end of August for September!
  I am really, really excited about play group!:)

Need Help for August Temple Trip...from Kristen Cornelsen

I'm interested in going on the temple trip on Aug 14 but I'll need some help:

 

I already have plans to drive to Tulsa to pick up Erik at the airport on Aug 14 (in the afternoon) so I would love to add on the ward temple session in the morning too. But since I can't swap with Erik and I won't have the time to make a trade with anyone else, are there any young men or young women planning on going up with their parents that might be able to watch our 2 kids? We will gladly pay you for your time. If you're interested, please let me know!

Play group tomorrow!

Hey mamas,

  I've been racking my brain for a play group place tomorrow, and I think I came up with a winner!  Did you know Chuck E. Cheese's opens at 9 AM?  Let's meet there at 10 for lots of fun!  I'm going to try extra hard to be on time too!:)  I don't know too many details (I tried to call, but it was difficult to get a real person), but from what I understand you buy tokens for the games and stuff, and admission is free.  I haven't been there in years, but remember LOVING it as a kid. 
  If you want to stay for lunch, I guess they have lots of food choices.  Anyway, it's 2006 Promenade Blvd. in Rogers!  Hope to see everyone there!

Third Batch of Corn is almost ready

 

Yesterday I was at the stake farm, located by Centerton Ward building.  I spoke with Bro. Isabell who oversees the farm.  There will be more corn available either this weekend or the first part of next week.  He was watering the corn again and said it should plump up and turn yellow by Saturday or Monday.  He asked me to let everyone in Centerton know, so please do not let it go to waste.  Thank you.
