Sister Spotlight

Brienne Austin

Brienne moved to Bentonville with her husband Dan in January 2009 from Provo Utah (BYU). They have one girl, Sadie, who is one. She sews adorable children’s toys and blankets. She also enjoys crocheting and playing volleyball. Walking with good friends makes her happy. She prefers dark chocolate. Her favorite food is orange chicken. Her favorite dessert is chocolate ice cream. And she likes to vacation anywhere with family. Her favorite hymn is “Be Still my Soul” because it always helps her to feel the Spirit. This year she hopes to teach her husband how to cook.

Kristian Harris

Kristian and her husband Dwight moved from Idaho to Bentonville in June 2010. They have one little girl, London, who is 2 and a baby boy (Corbin) due in March. Kristian enjoys running, sports, nutrition, and fitness. Spending time with her family and friends makes her happy, and she prefers milk chocolate. Her favorite foods are pizza and pasta. Her favorite desserts are anything chocolate, cookies, and candy. A favorite vacation is on a cruise or relaxing at home. Her favorite scripture is Matt 25:40 (Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.) because she feels that she has been given so much. She hopes to finish potty training London and eventually run a 5K.


Danielle Myers

Danielle moved to NWA in January 2008 from Jonesboro, Arkansas. Her husband Remington (AKA Rem) recently started teaching high school geometry and personal finance. Danielle enjoys working out, sewing, fashion, and playing with her dog. She just started a blog. Relaxing and being around people make Danielle happy. She prefers milk chocolate. Her favorite foods are chips and salsa. Her favorite dessert is red velvet cheesecake, and her favorite place to vacation is the beach. Her favorite hymn is “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” She wants in write in her journal weekly and to keep up with Sunday School reading this year.

Not many details are known about this 9 lbs 1 oz, 19 inch long little bundle of joy.  But the most important one is.... 

IT'S A GIRL!!!!

THRIVE SALE

Now that the dust has settled from the purchase and Christmas season, we've had some time to reflect on some of the stuff we learned in our business classes long ago.  We seemed to recall something about inventory management.  You know, FIFO, LIFO, Just-in-time and realized that we are pretty much working on the "Just-too-much" method.  So, we got looking at the THRIVE and noticed that some of it is getting a little dated.  And we are all about being new and hip here at the Beehive.  Anyhow, we've pulled some of the older cans and put them on sale (some up to 30% off).  They still have plenty of shelf life (like 20 years or more) but we thought you'd prefer to see them on your shelves than on ours and thought we'd help a little with that.  There are lots of great items (we've already had a few lucky customers get first pick).  They won't last long and we cannot hold items.  So don't wait.  Come in today and get a great deal.  Here's a short list of what's been reduced:

Outstanding Valentine's Concert

Dear Friends,

 

Bentonville Orchestras is thrilled to present two phenomenal groups in one deliciously romantic evening of music for your Valentine's enjoyment on February 10, 2011 at 7:30.  Nate Robinson is a violinist of the highest esteem and acclaim.  He has performed in such venues as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and collaborated with Sting and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.    Nate is a graduate of Yale University where he worked closely with the late renowned violinist and protege of Jascha Heifetz, Erick Friedman.  Mr. Robinson currently resides in New York City.  Paired with Nate is another not-to-be-missed group, the Alianza String Quartet.  Described as "a showstopper" (Columbia [Mo.] Daily Tribune), "among the best in the USA" (President of the American Academy of Arts and Letters), "a group of tremendous vision and integrity" (Clive Greensmith, cellist, Tokyo String Quartet), the Alianza String Quartet are lending their aid to the students in our orchestra programs.

 

All Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Bentonville Orchestras in the Bentonville School District and be used for scholarships, educational programs, and equipment purchases.  The Orchestra programs are truly one of the jewels of Northwest Arkansas and a great credit to our area.  In attending this concert, you will not only be treated to a Carnegie-Hall worthy recital from top level musicians, you will also be bolstering music for 550+ students.

 
The event is being hosted by the Bentonville Orchestra Boosters, a 501C organization which is the Booster Club for the Bentonville Orchestras.  Ad space for the program is available (see attachment) and tickets will be $18.00 for adults and $8.00 for students and can be purchased online at www.heartstrings.eventbrite.com

Block of the Month

Dear Sisters,
It is that time again and we WILL begin our Block of the Month sewing project!  It will be Thurs. Jan. 27 at 9am in the morning at the Centerton church.
I cannot tell you how much material you will need as we are not following any one project; we will turn it into one, though!
So, as a rough estimate:  choose 1-1 1/2 yds of about 6 coordinating fabrics.  Each square will be a 12" block when you are through
OR, you can use up all scraps you have and make a true "scrap quilt".
This will be fun, it should not take a very long time as we will only work on 1 square each month.

February Book Group

Book group was so much fun on Thursday!  Good food, good friends, good book...what more can we ask for.  For those who weren't able to make it, The Help is well worth reading.  It is thought provoking and enlightening; yet enjoyable and funny at the same time.  Cori led a fantastic discussion!  Thank you Cori and thanks to Alisha for hosting.  She even moved in an extra couch for us :)

For February we will be reading The Giver by Lois Lowry.  Dana McKasson will lead the discussion.  We will meet Thursday, February 3rd at 8:30 pm at Kim Cutting's house.

Here is a brief summary of the book:

In the "ideal" world into which Jonas was born, everybody has sensibly agreed that well-matched married couples will raise exactly two offspring, one boy and one girl. These children's adolescent sexual impulses will be stifled with specially prescribed drugs; at age 12 they will receive an appropriate career assignment, sensibly chosen by the community's Elders. This is a world in which the old live in group homes and are "released"--to great celebration--at the proper time; the few infants who do not develop according to schedule are also "released," but with no fanfare. Lowry's development of this civilization is so deft that her readers, like the community's citizens, will be easily seduced by the chimera of this ordered, pain-free society. Until the time that Jonah begins training for his job assignment--the rigorous and prestigious position of Receiver of Memory--he, too, is a complacent model citizen. But as his near-mystical training progresses, and he is weighed down and enriched with society's collective memories of a world as stimulating as it was flawed, Jonas grows increasingly aware of the hypocrisy that rules his world. With a storyline that hints at Christian allegory and an eerie futuristic setting, this intriguing novel calls to mind John Christopher's Tripods trilogy and Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Match Girl. Lowry is once again in top form--raising many questions while answering few, and unwinding a tale fit for the most adventurous readers.

Below is the tentative book list for 2011.  We have tried to compile a mix of YA novels, more "serious" novels, and some self-help/non-fiction books.  This list is subject to change, but I wanted to get it out there for those that like to read ahead!  If there was a book that you really wanted on the list, but it didn't make it, please let me know!  

We still need hosts for July, August, December, and January 2011.  We also need discussion leaders.  Don't by shy!  It's not hard to lead a discussion...just keep it moving and have a few questions and quotes from the book.  Please let me know if you would be willing to host or lead.  Thanks!!

Stake Conference

Hello everyone.  Just a reminder that this weekend will be Stake Conference.  The details for each session are as follows:

Adult Session – Saturday, January 8^th, from 7-9pm.  For everyone 18yrs and older.  This meeting will be held at the Stake Center and will also be broadcast to the Centerton Building.  You may attend at either location. 

General Session – Sunday, January 9^th, from 10am-12pm.  This meeting will also be held at the Stake Center and will be broadcast to the Centerton Building.  You may attend at either location.
