free clothing giveaway next weekend

Hello ,
I wanted to let you know about some news that you might be interested in. Also, PLEASE forward this to anyone who lives locally that you think may be able to benefit from either event.

We are hosting two wonderful events geared towards helping families in our community. As you know current economic conditions have many families struggling to stay afloat. With the holidays approaching quickly many people are wondering how they will afford to give Christmas to their children. We were in the same boat last year and struggled so hard we could not afford Christmas gifts for our 3 children (we have 4 now). Had it not been for some generous people who gave to our family, our kids would have had nothing under the tree.

The year has been better to our family and we want to give back to our community! The first event will be held at Firesale in the Kingston Shopping Center (Rogers, AR) this Saturday, Nov 6th from 9am to 3pm. We will host a clothing drive and giveaway called “The Clothesline”. it’s our 2nd annual event. People can just show up and they will be given an opportunity to come and select some free clothing for their family members. Last year we gave away over 8,000 articles of clothing to over 1200 families.

We’ve teamed up with some local charities to make this event possible. Anyone wishing to make donations to the event can drop them off Friday evening or early Saturday morning before the event starts. (just use the contact info provided in this email to make arrnagments for drop offs) We have an urgent need for coats, CLEAN shoes and children’s clothing items. Donations need to be CLEAN and sorted, folded and presented ready to give. Please, no dirty or soiled items- nothing with stains or damage.

As an added bonus, we will be hosting another event Nov 15-22 in Springdale at the Ozark Center Point shopping center. It is a children’s consignment event geared towards the holidays. Our purpose is to give struggling families and opportunity to make some money to boost their Christmas budgets and also find great bargains on new and gently used items like: baby/children’s clothing, toys, furniture, gear, Christmas decorations and more. Anything to make a child’s Christmas a littler merrier!

Those who are interested in consigning can sign up for a free account at our website and enter items into the system from the comfort of their own homes. Simply enter them, tag them, drop them off and pick up a check at the end of the week. This will give may families the ability to get caught up on some bills and purchase gifts for their children. The sale is open to the public after a short private sale held for volunteer workers and consignors.

Items left over from the children’s consignment event will be given to needy families in our community.

My sister needs a new sitter for her daughter in the bentonville, rogers, centerton area. I was wondering if you might know anyone that is doing any at home childcare or might be interested in doing some?(a member of the church would be great) She usually needs someone 30-35 hrs per wk and it can be anywhere between 4am and 10pm depending on her schedule so it would need to be someone that is willing to be flexible. .... A Huge Reason to Vote

 Remember, we get to vote on November 2nd! Exercise your right!

  

This is the story ......of our Mothers and Grandmothers who lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

 The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote.

 And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'

They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.

 They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cell mate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

 

 Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote. For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.

 When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

So, refresh MY memory. Some women won't vote this year because - Why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work? Our vote doesn't matter? It's raining?

Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO's new movie 'Iron Jawed Angels.' It is a graphic depiction of the battle these women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.

All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote. Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege. Sometimes it was inconvenient.

My friend Wendy, who is my age and studied women's history, saw the HBO movie, too. When she stopped by my desk to talk

about it, she looked angry. She was--with herself. 'One thought kept coming back to me as I watched that movie,' she said. 'What would those women think of the way I use, or don't use, my right to vote? All of us take it for granted now, not just younger women, but those of us who did seek to learn.' The right to vote, she said, had become valuable to her 'all over again.'

 

 HBO released the movie on video and DVD . I wish all history, social studies and government teachers would include the movie in their curriculum I want it shown on Bunco/Bingo night, too, and anywhere else women gather. I realize this isn't our usual idea of socializing, but we are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think a little shock therapy is in order.

It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make her crazy.

 

 The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'

 

 Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know.  We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party - remember to vote.

1.  In the comments section post any costumes you're looking for or costumes you would like to offer up for someone else to borrow.

2.  Check out others' comments and see if you can help anyone else out.

3.  Contact the sister to set up the exchange.

 Don't be shy, but also remember that you probably won't want to offer up any costumes that have any sentimental value because, let's face it, they will be worn by kids.
